Priorities for District 35A
Issues voters across District 35A have identified as important—and the policies Walter would pursue.
01
Strengthen Idaho's public schools through competitive teacher pay, rural education, and measurable learning outcomes. Our children must be prepared to compete in a global economy.
02
Invest in aquifer recharge, water infrastructure, and verified basin-wide conservation. Reexamine Swan Falls hydropower obligations. Farmers need dependable water policy, not recurring emergency negotiations.
03
Build on Idaho's SB 1227 by funding teacher training and measuring AI literacy. Develop community-college programs for practical AI skills and career transitions for workers potentially displaced by AI.
04
Protect rural emergency departments, maternity care, and essential medical services threatened by funding pressures and physician departures. Losing these services affects entire communities, including people with excellent health insurance.
05
Eliminate the grocery sales tax, require developers to pay proportionate infrastructure costs, and repeal special data-center tax exemptions. Stop shifting corporate costs onto existing homeowners, renters, and taxpayers.
06
Help family farms remain economically viable through dependable water supplies, healthy soils, practical conservation assistance, and opportunities for local producers to sustain their operations into the next generation.
07
Require informed voter authorization for covered government mass surveillance, with periodic renewal, judicial warrant protections, strict data-retention limits, independent audits, and meaningful penalties for misuse.
08
Restore meaningful local authority over development and infrastructure. Represent all five counties through regular public meetings, transparent legislative votes, and publicly reported results.
Public review invited · Version 3.2
Walter has prepared a proposal addressing government mass surveillance, including voter authorization, limits on searches and retention, and independent oversight.
